Staying at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town

Staying at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town

Old-Hollywood glamour and colonial grandeur come together to create the magnetic atmosphere at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

Nestled at the foot of the iconic Table Mountain, this hotel is a luxury escape in the heart of Cape Town.

Want to explore the most beautiful city in South Africa? Here’s everything you need to know about staying at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

The Hotel

As one of the city’s premier five-star hotels, Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town is simply gorgeous. This chic property has two outdoor swimming pools, a well-equipped fitness center (don’t miss the outdoor yoga and Pilates here), tennis courts, a family activity center and a luxury spa.

Their Signature Boutique is also an exceptional spot to shop South-African handicrafts and locally sourced souvenirs.

Did I mention that this landmark hotel is where Winston Churchill, John Lennon and Nelson Mandela have all hung their hats for a night?

The Rooms

Between the Victorian cottages and rose gardens at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, you’ll find a range of room options.

It’s all about the old-world charm here!

You really can’t go wrong with your room choice, so it just depends on your group size, budget and style. All of the rooms feature a view of the hotel gardens or Table Mountain, as well as gorgeous marble bathrooms.

Deluxe Rooms include a separate sitting area if you need some room to spread out, and there are options available with a balcony for soaking in the sun. Junior Suites have a bedroom with an open-plan lounge area, and you’ve got the option to upgrade to the oversized Deluxe Junior Suites.

For a classic pick, the Superior Rooms offer a king-size or twin bed in a cozy space.

And, be sure to check out the restored historic cottages! These were made just for couples looking for a romantic hideaway.

Food + Drink

Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is famous for its afternoon tea, and it’s one of my best memories from staying there. The lounge is every girl’s fanciest tea-party dream come true!

Come ready to sample their tasty sandwiches, cakes, meringues and scones.

For breakfast and lunch, Oasis Bistro is a prime place to try local and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. When it’s time for dinner, the on-site Planet Restaurant is the place to be for seasonal specialities.

Belmond Spa

The Spa

Is there anything better than a luxe spa break? With a steam bath, Finnish sauna, massages and facials, this place ticks all the right boxes.

They’ve got mani-pedis, waxing and tinting, so it’s perfect for an afternoon glam session. Before you go out for the night, check out the full menu of services at Mario’s Company on-site hair salon, too.

Whatever you decide to go for, don’t miss out on the chance to get an Africology facial.

This luxurious eco-friendly skincare company is based in South Africa, and they offer ingredients you can’t get elsewhere.

Belmond and Table Mountain

Activities

You’ll never be bored at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel. Maybe I’m partial to my new hometown, but there is such an incredibly diverse array of things to do in Cape Town.

I know getting up early may not be the first thing you want to do on vacation, but taking in the day’s first light from Table Mountain makes it well worth it to get out of bed before dawn. If you’re not up for the morning hike, there are other fun options like a Cape Town cultural walking tour, painting class and portrait-painting session.

With one of the most impressive lineups of activities I’ve seen at a hotel, Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel also offers historical walking tours, farm visits, winery tours, tennis lessons, shopping tours and safari packages.

Blonde at the Belmond Hotel

– In My Opinion –

The Mount Nelson is a true landmark property in Cape Town. Even if you don’t book a night there, you should definitely visit for a meal or drinks. Even with the current drought in Cape Town, the Mount Nelson is lucky to have it’s own water sources, so the pool and property is absolutely stunning.

The hotel is also centrally located to some of the best bars and restaurants in town, so you can grab an uber or even walk to explore the neighborhood.
