Travel can take a toll on just about everything—skin, sleep, metabolism, and hair. Personally, I focus mostly on maintaining healthy skin and hair while I’m traveling because when those are at their best, I feel put together (even if I’m far from it).
After long term trips, and spending lots of time in the ocean and in the sun, I notice that my hair begins to dull and feels dry to touch. It tangles easier, and I can see the ends breaking when I brush through it. Dry, damaged hair is not a girl’s best friend, and we all have better things to do than worry about it.
SO, since then, I’ve learned the importance of hydrating my hair after traveling!
Hydrating Your Hair
It’s pretty basic, your hair needs to be hydrated, and there are a few ways to do so. The body is made up pf over 70 percent water, and a “healthy” strand of hair is about 13% water, so water is essential for not only your health, and beautiful skin, but beautiful and strong hair!
If you start to get dehydrated, your hair will begin to feel dry, lackluster and in some cases susceptible to breakage… no one wants that. So fill up your cup, and hit your daily water goal!
Secondly, you’ve got to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
There are tons of ways to treat dry and damaged hair, but I’ve found that a daily shampoo & deep conditioning regimen, with an occasional dry hair treatment, does the best for my hair.
Aussie Hair Products
I have used different Aussie hair products over the years, I recently fell in love with Aussie’s Moist Shampoo and Moist Conditioner. They leave hair clean, fresh and ready to be styled, and they both have great moisturizing power so I don’t have to think twice about my hair between washes—silky smooth!
For a deeper condition and treating my dry hair, I use their 3 Minute Miracle Strong Conditioning Treatment, which makes hair 10x stronger against damage compared to a non-conditioning shampoo. It’s quick and easy, and has added noticeable strength to my long, fine hair. Plus, it prevents split ends.
Win, win.
From windy days hiking up a mountain side to deep sea diving, the hair damage is endless, so it’s my go-to hair conditioning treatment now. Let’s be honest, we all want great looking hair—without any of the fuss—or without worrying about which products will work on our hair.
Even better, you can grab these Aussie hair products on AMAZON.COM. Having your hair products shipped to your home is a huge time-saver!
Another good point to add is that you shouldn’t wash your hair everyday. The more often you wash your hair, the drier it will become because washing removes the scalp’s natural oils. Aim to wash your hair every two to three days depending on your preference.
Other Ways to Hydrate Hair
-
If you dye, highlight, perm, or relax your hair at all, be aware of how often you are doing so, and try to do it less frequently.
-
Always try to protect your hair from wind and sun with a hat or scarf!
-
Make sure you’re using a good brush—I highly recommend a Wet Brush that doesn’t pull on strands when tangled, which can lead to split ends and breaking.
-
Hit your daily requirements of Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K! Found in fruits, grains, and green, leafy vegetables, these vitamins help with hair growth and overall health. Also make sure to eat enough silica, a mineral found in asparagus, bell peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, and other vegetables, that can help with strength of your hair strands.
